Sometimes I wonder if we're really talking about my add-on

You know what? You hit the nail on the head! :D

I had two addons - ToggleHTML and yours (I think ATH was not working for a while so I got ToggleHTML temporarrily?). Indeed ShowHTML from ATH works perfectly! :)

Hmm... I've been playing a bit more with it and noticed, that ATH now again has "Show HTML" (which is not permanent) so I won't have to use the main toolbar toggle over all modes (plain -> original HTML -> all body parts -> simple HTML).

I tried to tweak ATH options so that "Show HTML" would switch to "simple HTML" view only but I only see "Original HTML", "Sanitized HTML" and "PlainText".

Is it possible to have "Show HTML" switched to "Simple HTML" view only?

Hmm... I don't remember what but SimplifiedHTML had some weird issue (I think it was multi-level quoting and some formatting still spilling out instead of just sticking to monospaced font :)

Isn't that already part of Thunderbird? You can force any message to be displayed as plain text, even if it does not have a plain text part. What am I missing?

If it doesn't have plain-text part then it will display nothing or even "there is nothing here, switch to HTML" text (sic!) hence me using AllowTempHtml....

What's more, quite often plain-text part is just the most rudimentary notification and misses a lot from the HTML variant thus having to switch to HTML version either way. Having automatic display of HTML part converted down to markdown would be awesome (and maybe with tracking rubbish stripped from the links as well while at it)

    Hmm... weird. Another link: `https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/autom…own/idi-p/66141`

But I just checked in private mode and indeed it says "not found". Maybe it is moderated and has to be approved?

    Hi,

not sure if this is the best forum/plugin but as a long time ATH user I ran into issues where plain-text version is missing and it struck me that it would be awesome if there was a plugin/feature that would automatically create plain-text version, ideally markdown-formatted) so it would be displayed just fine without need to switch to basic-html.

IMHO it could also be used as another mode and virtually convert all html mails to markdown (i.e. display plain-text by default if present and if not render html->markdown version). There is even a library that does just that: https://github.com/mixmark-io/turndown

  • Allow HTML Temp for Thunderbird 115?

Auch. Awful. I commented in the thread though it seems their bugzilla lacks feedback from the devs (I submitted 2 other issues from supernova without any comment…)

I saw the thread in German, but after translating the title and first message I assumed it's about something with configuration, not the complete inability to have it working :-(

So I just updated to Thunderbird 115 and noticed that AHT does not support it:

Are there any plans to support it? :-)

I already contacted them a couple of times to no avail thus decided to make a request.

Though, your reasoning makes sense :-)

    TB 102.6.1 (64-bit)

    AHT 8.1.5

It would be great if AHT had Exception list, where all emails from particular address would be displayed in HTML (either basic or original).

Motivation: my bank send me account updates and they include valuable information (date/ammount/merchan) in HTML part and plain-text part only says "your client doesn't support html"... (which is beyond stupid as it's virtually all-text notification without any formatting or images...)

Sure thing. And if anything happens - provide log from _after_ using AHT - correct? :-)

Sorry, got carried away with other things. Though, I've been using debug version of AHT since you published it and it seems to be better.

Here are the logs ("-debug-" is the version you attached). I run it for a couple of minutes and so far haven't run into any issues. (though I haven't been using AHT recently as it was very unpredictable so I just settled for constant plain-text).

I'll test it some more and let you know.

    > The screen video is a good idea, but unfortunately I don't see the content of the email, which would be helpful to see the change in display (HTML versus plain text).

Well, I couldn't show complete email unfortunately. In a nutshell: the mail was displayed in HTML, statusbar said "original HTML" but it's context menu had selected "Plain text". Only after clicking on Plain Text it went back to actual plain text.

Didn't logs share any information about the issue?

The issue itself is quite odd as frequency of it's procurance is quite uneven - sometimes it happens only once in a couple of days, other time it's almost every couple of minutes/hours.

Interestingly, after switching to "Plain text" it was OK for a couple of hours and it's back to displaying HTML ("Original HTML in the statusbar, "Plain text" in the context menu selected)

OK, it happened again and I managed to grab the logs (see attached: console-export-2022-1-24_11-25-16.txt) and noticed weird thing - in the status bar I saw "Original HTML" and upon right-clicking it said "Plain text" and only after re-cliking on "Plain text" it went back to that mode:

    You've to enable the notifications:

    https://www.thunderbird-mail.de/notification-settings/

Weird, I didn't find this page before. Though, even though I din't have email notifications enabled there I got notification bout your subsequent message. I enabled it now, thanks.

4 weeks later - any news on this?

It happened once but I was kinda in a hurry and couldn't gather the logs. It seems it happens less often recently, which is somewhat odd.
