ConfigDate - An add-on to customize the date display setting

  • ConfigDate allows you to customize the date display in Thunderbird's Date column (in the thread / message list). You can also change the display of time / date when viewing the headers to see the local time of the sender (including its time zone).

    2 Settings

To check or change the settings, go to Tools ➔ Add-ons ... ➔ Extensions ➔ ConfigDate. Right-click on ConfigDate so that the context menu opens. In the context menu, select Settings ....

In the settings dialog you can then make the settings. Please note that you must confirm your changes with OK.

    2.1 Date

There are 5 different formats for the date. However, apparently the "Long" and "Short" formats are the same under Linux.

    Note

The 5 formats are specified by Thunderbird. ConfigDate only provides the dialog to choose between the given formats.

The display of the date column will be adjusted after a restart of the Thunderbird!

    2.2 Sent-time

    Normal formatted date (default):

2.3 Regional settings of the operating system

If you miss even more options in the selection of date formats, then you should take a look at the language and regional settings of your operating system. Depending on the date display selected there, the display also changes in Thunderbird! Especially affected are the "short" and "long" date formats from ConfigDates selection.

    2.3.1 Windows 10

In Windows 10, open Control Panel ➔ Language ➔ Change Date, Time, or Number Formats and enter the dialog titled Region. In the Formats tab you will find the required settings for Date (short) and Date (long). On request, the so-called ISO format in the form of YYYY-MM-DD can be set for the short date:

    2.3.2 Windows XP

In Windows XP you can access the following dialog via Control Panel ➔ Regional and Language Options:

Click on "Customize ..." to make the following dialog visible:

You can specify separate settings for the short and long date formats from a drop-down menu. The selection also contains the missing ISO format (YYYY-MM-DD) for some users. This looks like this in Thunderbird:

Incidentally, you can also adjust the display of the time.

    3 Included languages

The add-on has been translated into about 25 languages so far. Use the BabelZilla website to make corrections or to contribute to further translations.
